DISPERSION STUDIES OF CAPILLARY ELECTROPHORESIS WITH DIRECT CONTROL OF ELECTROOSMOSIS

摘要
The zeta potential and the electroosmotic flow in capillary electrophoresis can be directly controlled by using a radial electric potential gradient across the capillary wall. Flow profiles and dispersion in the capillary with the direct control of electroosmosis are studied. The values of total spatial variance measured from the experiment are in good agreement with the predictions based on only molecular diffusion. There is no measurable additional dispersion and band broadening induced by the direct control of electroosmosis. A dc short circuit phenomenon at the capillary/solution interface is proposed for explaining our experimental observations.
