The reaches of higher education's regionalization: The Bologna Process and the Educational MERCOSUR (1991-2012)

What is the role of the regions in the internationalization/globalization of education? This article seeks to answer this question through the comparison between the European Union and mercosur experiences, from 1987 to 2015. Both blocks included higher education as a priority issue in their integration agendas, with more emphasis than other regions of the world. This raised the authors' interest in understanding this uniqueness and getting to know the reasons and/or motivations of their respective governments to involve their structures and institutional resources in this effort. Likewise, this article aims to compare the results achieved by both blocks in terms of institutional building, and hopes to contribute to the academic debate, proposing an alternative argument in the current scenario of the academy.
