摘要
Two sections excavated at the western edge of the marsh of the Baux Valley near the roman water-mill ruins at Barbegal have allowed to sample for the pollen analysis. Three C-14 measures obtained from the organic matter date the pollen sequence from ca. 4000 to 2000 years BP. The sequence recorded by the pollen diagrams supports the succession yet known from this region. A West-East comparison of the sites now known points to an early and long deforestation of the slopes and hills. Moreover, it appears that in this south slope of the Alpilles Mountain cereals precede the roman olive development.
