A two-stage Gifford-McMahon refrigerator, with magnetic materials in the regenerator of the second stage, has been developed based on results of thermal analyses of the unique cycle. The no-load temperature of the second stage is 2.8 K and the cooling capacity of the second stage is 525 mW/4.2 K at 24 rpm, while the temperature of the first stage is running at about 40 K. The design principles, the structure parameters, and the test results are given. And also a preliminary analysis of the heat balance of the second stage is discussed in this paper.
