Solitary, synchronous pancreatic metastasis of newly diagnosed colon cancer

A 66-year-old woman presented with obstructive posthepatic jaundice. After the initial suspicion of the presence of a pancreatic cancer, further staging identified a tumorous mass in the cecum. Under the assumption of possible synchronous tumorous entities, a hemicolectomy and pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (Traverso-Longmire procedure) were performed with curative intent. Histological results showed the rare constellation of colorectal cancer with a solitary, synchronous pancreatic metastasis. In a review of the literature, metastasis should be considered if a tumorous mass of the pancreas is present with current or history of malignancy. In case of a solitary metastasis of colorectal cancer, a metastasectomy is possible, even if it is not possible to make a statement about the benefit for patients with the available data.
