EMISSION-LINE PROFILES OF ACCRETION DISKS WITH A NON-AXISYMMETRICAL PATTERN

In several cases, accretion disks may have non-axisymmetric patterns, such as one-armed oscillations and spiral shock waves. In such cases the line emissivity may also become non-axisymmetric. We examined the emission-line profiles for geometrically thin/thick, (non-) relativistic accretion disks while taking account of the non-axisymmetric emissivity. The emission-line profiles were calculated numerically using a code based on the ray-tracing method. The emission-line profiles are usually double-peaked shapes, as expected, and therir red/blue peaks vary with the rotation of emissivity pattern. In the non-relativistic case the red-blue asymmetry of the emissionline profile is due purely to the emissivity pattern. In the relativistic case, on the other hand, the double-peaked profiles, which are originally asymmetric due to relativistic effects, have various shapes. In the case of thick tori, when seen edge-on, the line profiles become rectangular, which are asymmetric due to the axisymmetric emissivity. Observations of the line profile asymmetry may reveal a non-axisymmetric wave pattern on accretion disks.
