TESICH'S VISION OF AMERICAN DREAM

Steve Tesich is just one among numerous contemporary authors who explore cultural practices that make war, violence and cruelty inevitable. The goal of this paper is to explore the consequences of such cultural practices within Western culture and to examine whether it is posible to return to the teaching of Socrates and Pelagius, based on complete self-knowledge and affirmation of the goodness of man. The question posed by Tesich, an American author of Serbian origin, is whether it is possible for one to realize his or her American Dream and, at the same time, remain loyal to one's inner self.
