The interacting blends of poly(acrylic acid) with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) or poly(vinyl alcohol) in aqueous solutions have been studied by ultrasonic, rheological and viscometric techniques. The mixing of solutions of the polymers produces an immediate precipitate, indicating strong interaction between the polymers. Investigations over wide ranges of concentration, temperature, composition, pH and shear rate indicate the degree of miscibility, extent of interaction between the polymers and stoichiometry of the polymer complexes formed by the strong interaction between the polymers in solutions.
