:
17 strains of Porphyromonas (Bacteroides) and 12 other species of Bacteroides were studied for their coaggregation with Actinomyces viscosus. Three different coaggregation assays were conducted and compared. P. gingivalis was found to coaggregate with A. viscosus in all three assays, while other Bacteroides species were not. The difference in coaggregation scores between P. gingivalis and non-P. gingivalis strains was statistically significant when analysed by nonparametric statistical methods (p < 0.0001). The coaggregation scores were strain-specific. The degree of coaggregation was found to depend on the coaggregation assay employed. © 1990.
