SURFACE-TENSION AND ADSORPTION IN LIQUID-TIN OXYGEN SYSTEM

摘要
The temperature dependence of the surface tension of liquid tin in the temperature range of 873 to 1373 K and the surface tension of liquid tin-oxygen alloys at 1073 and 1273 K have been measured by the sessile drop method. The surface tension of liquid tin is $70-0.108(T - T(m)) mNm-1 in an Ar-3%H2 mixture. Oxygen is surface-active in liquid tin, and the excess surface concentration of oxygen is 6.9 x 10(-7) mol m 2 at 1073 K and 2.4 x 10(-7) mol m-2 at 1273 K. The surface tension of tin completely free from oxygen has been estimated from its dependence on the oxygen partial pressure; its value is in agreement with the one obtained for an ultraclean surface.
