The monumental restoration in the city of Jaen during the Francoism

Through this study we analyze the different interventions carried out in the religious architecture of the city of Jaen (Spain) during the Francoist Dictatorship. These works were intended to overcome the damage caused by the Civil War, as well as the buildings poor state of conservation caused by the passage of the years, and were financed by the main institutions responsible for the historic-artistic heritage during this time (the General Directorate of Devastated Regions, the General Directorate of Architecture and the General Directorate of Fine Arts). These interventions were carried out by Francisco Prieto-Moreno Pardo, Ramon Pajares Pardo and Francisco de Paula Lopez Rivera among others architects, who carried out the majority of the restorations in the province of Jaen during the middle of the 20th. century. Through the documentation from different files, as well as the bibliographic sources consulted, we do an approximation to the restorations carried out in these religious monuments, most of which were in line with the legislation at the national level. However, we will also analyze examples in which these guidelines are not met, which meant the total transformation of these buildings.
