DISASTER PREPAREDNESS OF SMALL BUSINESSES WITH MICROCOMPUTER-BASED INFORMATION-SYSTEMS

As organizations, both small and large, become more and more dependent on their Computer Based Information Systems (CBIS), any interruption in the availability of CBIS could lead to anywhere from a minor inconvenience to a permanent loss of business depending on the duration of the interruption. Unfortunately, the seriousness of the impact of disaster to a CBIS becomes clear to organizations only after the first disaster strikes. For some organizations, this lesson may be too costly or too late. This paper presents the state of practices in 67 small businesses as it pertains to their microcomputer based CBIS disaster preparedness.
