GOAT MARKETING AND PRICING IN ILE-IFE, NIGERIA

Based on the premise that the performance of goats is based on level of management and control of marketing (identification of where and when the best prices are obtained), this paper reports on the Enuwa Goat Market at Ile-Ife, Nigeria. It is postulated that the price of goat in the market is affected by weight, sex, age and hair characteristics, and direct relationships were found between price and weight, sex and age. However, the positive relationship recorded when hair coat was considered together with three other independent variables, was found to be negative when considered alone in goat pricing. The results indicated that much of the variability in goat prices in the study area cannot be explained by hair coat.
