COMPENSATION FOR CHROMATIC DISPERSION AND SELF-PHASE MODULATION IN A TRANSMISSION FIBER BY OPTICAL-PHASE CONJUGATION

摘要
This paper outlines a method of compensating for pulse shape distortion due to fiber dispersion and the optical Kerr effect by using optical phase conjugation (OPC). A highly efficient generation of a phase-conjugate wave through nondegenerate forward fourwave mixing in a dispersion-shifted fiber was achieved by suppressing the stimulated Brillouin scattering of a pump wave. In a transmission experiment through a 200-km standard (1.3 mu m zero-dispersion) single-mode fiber with a 10-Gb/s intensity-modulated signal, OPC effectively compensated for both chromatic dispersion and the optical Kerr effect.
