Urban globalization and global cities. The transformations and spatial heterogeneity of contemporary cities

Globalization is an array of phenomena that have dramatically transformed urban spaces differently and with different economic mechanisms. Communication technologies generate compression effects of space-time, shaping ideas about the urban world. Additionally, urban areas and their areas of influence are dislocated, producing local territorial singularities which are connected in a global system of cities: the emerging cities. This generates center-periphery relations and new spaces related to the hierarchical relationships of global urban systems. However, it is necessary to review new possibilities conceptualization of global urban spaces. These issues are addressed by this work to allow discussions of ontologies heterogeneities of urban and global city.
