Levison presents a sweeping panoramic overview of the Holy Spirit throughout Scripture while noting significant Greco-Roman, Jewish, and Christian parallels. The Spirit is the life force animating humans, the agent of regeneration, and the source of prophetic inspiration and power. Levison identifies distinct pneumatological trajectories that show a continuity in the Spirit traditions that are clarified and enhanced as they move through the Christian tradition. But how indebted is the Church to Greco-Roman spirit-concepts for her pneumatology?
