Information scientists often see their subject as severely practical. However, the range of theory being applied in infor mation science has expanded considerably over the past thirty years. The basic question now is not whether applicable theo ries can be found to fit the various branches of information science, but rather whether the existing range of theories can be brought together to provide an integrated theoretical picture of the whole subject. © 1990, Sage Publications.
