There are given types of the adhesive acting on the metal-polymer interface for paint coatings on the zinc and steel substrates. The effect of paint coating as well as thickness of metallic substrates on the pull off determined coatings adhesion was studied. The wetting angles. of epoxy paint droplets were measured on the steel plates with different thickness. The characteristic of molecular interactions on the paint coating-zinc substrate interface was studied through comparison of IR and ATR spectra. There was determined the lowest thickness of steel substrate for which pull-off determined adhesion of paint coatings exceed the minimal allowable by PN-EN ISO 12944-5:2001 standard value of 5 MPa. It was stated that pull-off determined value of paint coatings adhesion stabilizes for 12 mm thickness of steel substrate. Keywords: paints coatings, adhesion, steel and zinc substrate
