MISUSE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL-PROBLEMS

As a result of the sudden opening of the society, due to democratic rebirth beginning in November 1989, Czecho-Slovakia experienced, among other things, an increase in irrationalism. Massmedia began to be dominated by various parascientific approaches offering typological ''portraits'' based on the shape Of one's scull, psychological handwriting analysis, palm reading, number analysis, etc. Astrology became quite popular and various journals and radio programs are full of horoscopes. Since applied psychology in Slovakia does not in practice have the same conditions as it does in countries where psychology is well developed, except for psychological educative counseling, and psychological consciousness of its citizens is partial, due to the totalitarian past, the danger arises that professional psychological services will become estranged - the result is the discreditation of psychology. Unfortunately psychologists here are passive. Could experiences from developed western countries be of any assistance to us?
