Ovarian endometrioma and reproductive capacity: role and limitations of surgical and conservative therapy

Endometriosis is a benign disease that affects 5% to 10% of women during their reproductive years and is one of the most common gynecological chronic diseases. It is associated with a wide variety of symptoms including chronic pelvic pain, dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea and infertility. The ovary seems to be the main site in which endometrioma is localized. The treatment of ovarian endometrioma is controversial. It's necessary to evaluate both the woman's health, and second, to respect the women's desire of pregnant. A cheaper and minimally invasive surgical approach must always be preferred. The objective of our review is evaluate the efficacy of surgical laparoscopic treatment versus conservative approach, according to the literature's articles. In addition, we also highlight the potential effects on the pregnancy rate in patients suffering from this disease.
