THE POWER OF PERSPECTIVES - A CASE FOR FEMINIST LEISURE THEORY

Feminist scholarship has produced an impressive body of theory across academic disciplines. From basic social and political beginnings, feminist arguments have engaged with broader discourses to establish feminism as relevant to every discipline. This evolution from social/political arguments to an engagement with philosophy, demonstrates how feminist theory has become pertinent to knowledge and to the critique of knowledges. Leisure theory which stems from an interdisciplinary field of knowledge, is likely to be profoundly influenced and informed by these discipline based feminist arguments. The project of this paper is to encourage feminist analysis in leisure studies and to promote an autonomist feminist approach to knowledge which emphasises the limitations of masculinist theories and methods. In the development of theory, feminism is presented as an essential, corrective, constructive, and representative authority.
