摘要：

The article deals with scientific and pedagogical work of L.V. Shcherba in the context of world philological and pedagogical thought of the 1900-40s and of the struggle for Soviet linguistics and pedagogy of the 1920-30s. The value of philological and pedagogical works of L.V. Shcherba from the point of view of the Soviet and post-Soviet historiography of science is discussed.
