摘要
Freeze-fracture and replication is a sample preparation technique for TEM that has been used to investigate microemulsion structure. In previous studies of the water/n-octane/pentaethylene glycol dodecyl ether system, images from identical samples of bicontinuous microemulsions have shown two different morphologies. Here, we present a method of preparing freeze-fracture specimens that allows us to see both types of morphologies and understand their origins. In the course of resolving the differences, we have developed a method for contrasting microemulsion structure exposed by a cohesive fracture with that exposed by adhesive fracture at a metal-microemulsion interface.
