INTERLAYER MAGNETIC COUPLING OF MULTILAYER STRUCTURES WITH PALLADIUM SPACER LAYERS

摘要
The interlayer coupling is found to be predominantly ferromagnetic in magnetic multilayer structures with palladium spacer layers. Based on the structure of the Pd density of states close to the Fermi level, we argue that this tendency towards ferromagnetism arises from a competition between Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida-like and superexchange contributions to the coupling. In addition, the oscillation period of five spacer monolayers that we obtain for multilayer structures with Pd spacers is consistent with the experimental data.
