In recent years, researchers have aimed consistently to develop skeletal anchorage devices. In this article, we describe our three-year experience using mini implants and their impact on our design and implementation of numerous forms of orthodontic treatment. Regular use of these devices has enabled us principally to: dispense with the need for patient cooperation which is often essential for successful treatment, shorten treatment time, offer alternative forms of treatment in critical situations: extensive edentulousness, poor periodontal environment, salvage of treatment failures, asymmetry, etc. We review first some basic principles before presenting and discussing several clinical cases treated using mini implants.
