Treatments of depression. Treatment by the medicine and/or treatment by the word

The power of medication over mental life has become a symptom of a modernity that tends to abolish, at a subjective level, the ethical duty of every human being to confront adversity and make existence bearable. When the accent falls only on the chemistry of depression, the subject is justified, he becomes a victim of genetic inheritance, the chemical dysfunctions of his brain, of his social and family environment. This is a debate between psychoanalysis and neurobiology with regard to the place assigned, in depressions, to the deficit in functions of the nervous system, and the introduction of the concept of affect, in order to reflect on the ethical dimension involved in them.
