Selected fundamental discoveries in the history of photosynthesis research are listed in six tables on: (1) the physiological relevance of green leaves, (2) the gas exchange and carbon dioxide assimilation by plants, (3) the light influence on the chlorophyll function, (4) the chlorophyll, (5) the assimilation starch and diastase, and (6) the chloroplasts. The intention of this survey is to trace the beginning and the way of photosynthesis research, especially in the 19th century.
