摘要
An experimental and mathematical model investigation of the behaviour of nitrogen during induction melting of a mixed charge of rolling mill steel scrap, pigs of steelmaking hot metal, and ingot mould scrap in an acid lined furnace is described. Nitrogen was found to be removed by a complicated mechanism, including floating out of nitrides, as a component of carbon monoxide bubbles, by slag extraction, and through the decrease in nitrogen solubility on metal carburisation. About 50% of the nitrogen is lost through heating and carburisation when the crucible is filled.
