Religious lyric poetry is a wide-spread and important element of the renaissance literary culture. This is testified by a three-volume anthology Rime sacre (Venice, 1550-1552). The anthology encompasses poets such as Gerolamo Malipiero, Jacopo Sannazaro, Pietro Bembo, Giovanni Guidiccioni, Vittoria Colonna, Pietro Aretino, Bernardo Tasso, Luigi Almanni, Agostino Caccia, Benedetto Varchi, Giraldi Cinzio, Lodovico Dolce, Alessandro Piccolomini, Tullia d'Argona and many others.
