STUDIES ON POLYMER COMPOSITES BASED ON SISAL POLYESTER AND GLASS MODIFIED SISAL FIBERS, FILLER AND UNSATURATED POLYESTER RESIN

摘要
The physical and mechanical behaviour of sisal fibre reinforced polyester composites have been studied as a function of sisal fibre content/fibre plies. In order to improve water uptake and wettability characteristics of sisal fibres, N-substituted methacrylamide was used as interfacial agent. Particulate hybrid composites have been prepared from treated sisal/glass fibres, filler and unsaturated polyester resin. An improvement in physico-mechanical properties of these composites was observed as compared to sisal/polyester and neat unsaturated polyester resin. A comparison has also been made with the properties of particulate hybrid composites to the commercially available medium density fibreboards and high density particle boards. The new composite has good physico-mechanical properties and performance characteristics.
