Using arguments derived from classical chemical thermodynamics, it is found that the isobaric, non-isothermal chemical reaction rate is in general a function of heating rate as well as of temperature and composition. However, non-isothermal reaction rate expressions have usually been identified with the corresponding isothermal rate expressions in the literature on non-isothermal chemical reaction kinetics. Generalizing from a specific example, a method is proposed according to which changes in isothermal reaction kinetic expressions may be made to agree with thermodynamics. © 1990.
