NOX-REDUCTION FOR THE COMBUSTION OF EAST-GERMAN LIGNITE

The lignite power stations of the new Federal States have the obligation to fulfil the "Grossfeuerungsanlagen-Verordnung". In respect of the removal of nitric oxides it has been tried to keep to the "Grossfeuerungsanlagen-Verordnung" requirements by using NO(x)-reduction measures on the furnace side, despite the difficulties with East-German lignite. For this reason various kinds of lignite from Eastern Germany were fired in an experimental combustion plant in the Power Station Niederaussem, in order to find out, whether combustion engineering measures can achieve the desired nitric oxide removal effect. The article describes these tests, explains the results and shows that for East-German lignite the removal of nitric oxides in the furnace in possible, too.
