Knowledge Management in Colombian SMEs

The objective of this article is to present the current state of knowledge management in Colombian SMEs. We evaluated 323 SMEs in items related to practices, processes, use and appropriation of information and communication technologies, skills and company traits for knowledge management in these cities: Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pereira and Armenia. It is worth to notice the progresses made in developing skills for knowledge management and processes implementation, but we found lack of progresses in the appropriation and there are needs related to the implementation of technological tools for managing knowledge. This study contributes to the academic community and the IT industry by providing an evaluation type and a baseline for developing innovation based on organizational knowledge management, which have been developed by using different research approaches and methods, validation and verification: a systematic review, participation- actionresearch.
