The larvas of the leafminer fly form mines in leaves, flowers, tubers, fruits and seeds; they feed on vegetable organs inside of their hosts. The work of recognizing these insects was carried out in the Laboratory of Plant Health using samples originating from the different municipalities of Granma province taken during the period 2000-2005. The study was conducted on crops and wild plants that serve as hosts to Agromyzidae - the first study of this nature in the province. The registered species belong to the 2 Subfamilies: Agromizinae with the genera Agromyza, Ophiomyia, Japanagromyza and Melanagromyza, and Phytomizinae with the genera Calycomyza, Amauromyza and Liriomyza. The species of leafminers of the family Agromyzidae has 8 genera and 17 species, with 2 recorded as possible new species.
