THE DUAL LOYALTY AT THE COURT OF PHILIP III: THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN R. HALLER S. I. AND F. MENDOZA S. I.

During the reign of Philip III it took place a transformation in the political justification of the Spanich Monarchy, from Monarchia Universalis to Catholic Monarchy. In the political practice this turned into a subordination of the Monarchy to the interests of Rome. The change was not simple or quietly. There were many conflicts between the courts of Rome and Madrid, as well as at the religious orders. The interests of the differents social groups and the individual aspirations were shown in differents aspects and institutions as the case we will study at the Society of Jesus.
