This article reviews the array of tools available for the pathologist-manager of the 1990s, gives definitions, and provides strategies, guidelines, techniques, and productivity and efficiency viability measures to assist managers in the continued production of high-quality laboratory diagnostic tests in a decade of economic constraint and shrinking (diminishing) resources.
