The article is dedicated to the critical analysis of Western-European and American scholarship of 1970s -2000s that deals with the aspects of the Early Renaissance portrait in Florence. The main attention focuses on correlation between the categories of 'ideal' and 'individualily', that is crucial aspects of the 15th-century Italian portraiture.
