The method of transmission measurement is used to study the spectral attenuation coefficient of zinc sulfide optical ceramic KO-2 in the temperature interval 293-773 K and the spectral range 2-14 mum. The contribution of scattering to attenuation is determined experimentally by means of a laser photometer for several discrete values of wavelength. Based on an analysis of literature data and absorption coefficients obtained in the present study, certain values of this coefficient are recommended as being the most reliable for zinc sulfide in the interval 293-773 K for the spectral region 10-14 mum.
