摘要
Extended time division multiplexing (TDM) combined with wave division multiplexing (WDM) is used to form a WTDM data-transmission system having optical devices. This system has a possible application with a detector having an enormous number of readout channels (greater-than-or-equal-to a few million), e.g. typical silicon (Si) micro(mu)strip detectors for the SSC or LHC as well as others used in future high-energy physics experiments. The optical WTDM data-transfer scheme has a factor of 1000 reduction in the number of cables and is therefore very fast, yet it includes individual readout.
