摘要
It is shown that the future high-temperature thermodynamic computations for minerals now hinge on the extension of the measurement of the volume thermal expansivity, beta, up to 2000 K. At present many measurements of beta-end at about 1200-1500 K, but the extrapolations to 2000 K are fraught with large errors. A few years ago, the missing thermodynamic parameter at high temperatures was the bulk modulus (or its reciprocal compressibility). Now that measurements of the bulk modulus are being accurately measured at 1800 K, attention is focused on improving measurements of beta at higher temperatures.
