ELECTROLYSIS OF EMULSIONS OF ORGANIC-COMPOUNDS ON HYDROPHOBIC ELECTRODES

摘要
Suspensions of some water-insoluble organic compounds, such as alcohols, amines, activated olefines, and dibromobenzene, were electrolyzed efficiently on a hydrophobic electrode prepared by composite-plating nickel with tetrafluoroethylene oligomer (TFEO) particles. This result suggests a useful method for suspension electrolysis from a practical aspect and a hypothesis (organic droplet-collecting effect) that the hydrophobic electrode surface is covered by thin films of the organic compounds and consequently the electrolysis of water (oxygen and hydrogen evolution) is suppressed.
