FRENCH MINING RESOURCES AND INVENTORY OF THE METROPOLITAN TERRITORY, RESULT AND PROSPECTIVES

A large, detailed map of French mineral resources is enclosed. The great dependence of the French mineral supply on outside resources, together with the latest discoveries on the metropolitan soil have led the French Government to start the Inventory of the Mining Resources of the National Territory; this public mission entrusted to the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research has for object to give the mining operators some new well defined and identified subjects of research. The Ministry of Industry ensures public dissemination of the results and the arbitration between concerned mining operators. After five years, several hundred of new mineral manifestations are listed: sixteen objects have already been given to mining companies. The more justified hopes concern lead, zinc, silver, copper, tungsten, antimony, gold, fluorine, and baryte.
