摘要
Papillary and follicular careinamas of thyroid do not have high mortality rates and the treatment is mostly very effective in these carcinomas. Multinodular goiter, nodular goiter and radiotherapy to neck region are the most common risk factors for thyroid carcinomas. 5-20% of thyroid nodules have thyroid carcinoma. In this report, we examined 475 patients who had thyroid nodules with diameters larger than 1cm in their ultrasonography and who had thyroid carcinoma in their thyroidectomy material which had been performed as a treatment modality for these nodules in General Surgical Department of Istanbul Educational and Research hospital between January and December 2007. Out of 385 cases 81.1 % reported benign, 18,9% reported malignant. 14 case were follicular carcinoma( 2,9 %) and 76 cases were papillary careinoma 16 %. Anaplastic and medullar carcinoma were not reported. Papillary carcinoma was in 84,5 % of the thyroid malignances. Because of high benign pathology result of the multinodular goiter cases, they should be operated, when malignance suspicion is high.
