RESPONSE OF LESSER GRAIN BORER (COLEOPTERA, BOSTRICHIDAE) TO THE COMPONENTS OF AGGREGATION PHEROMONE

The result of laboratory and field tests with Dominicalur-1 (+) and Dominicalur-2(+), the components of aggregation pheromone of lesser grain borer (Rhyzopertha dominica (F.)), and their optical isomeres are described. The dual-choice pitfall bioassay and probe traps were used to test the attractivity of these chemicals. The lesser grain borers were most significantly attracted by Dominicalur-1(+) and Dominicalur-2(+). The significant response to Dominicalur-1(-) and Dominicalur-2(-) was observed only in the dual-choice pitfall bioassay. Dominicalur-1(+) and Dominicalur-2(+) as well as their optical isomers had no influence on the mean number of Sitophilus oryzae, S. granarius, Tribolium spp. and Cryptolestes spp. captured by probe traps. The circadian periodicity in the responsiveness of lesser grain borers to Dominicalur-2(+) was not observed.
