Background. The Campaign"Not smoking can make you rich!"was implemented in Austrian schools with the aim of raising awareness among adolescents of financial aspects of smoking. Methods. A website (http://www.tabakfrei. at) was set up to communicate smoking prevention and cessation information to adolescents. The evaluation was based on an analysis of online survey data (n=400), website usage statistics, and focus group interviews with participants in schools. Results. Overall, the website (which included special offers such as free SMS) was used frequently (6,000 visitors per month). Six-ty-two percent of the online survey respondents reported that they were affected by the campaign to some extent (process of reflection, raising of awareness, knowledge, self-reported reduction in smoking, retained nonsmoking). Conclusions. Our results show that appropriately designed, youth-targeted anti-smoking campaigns can effectively reach the target population.
