摘要
Epoxidation of several alpha, beta-carbonyls (chalcones) has been carried out with t-butyl hydroperoxide using an iron(III) Schiff-base complex, (Fe-salen)(2)O, as catalyst. Presence of electron withdrawing groups in the phenyl ring of chalcone and high dielectric constant medium favoured the yield of epoxide. Effect of pH and temperature on the yield of epoxides has also been studied. A probable free radical mechanism is proposed.
