A field experiment conducted during the winter (rabi) seasons of 1987-88 and 1988-89 in deep Vertisols indicated that application of N and S improved the yield components of linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) up to a level of 90 kg N and 30 kg S/ha. Boron @ 1.1 kg/ha also stimulated these parameters. Seed yield was significantly increased to 17.23 and 19.04 q/ha at 90 and 60 kg N/ha during first and second year respectively under protective irrigations from a base level of 6.77 and 12.74 q/ha without N application. Application of 30 kg S/ha increased the yield significantly up to 13.37 to 18.11 q/ha. The highest net return of Rs 10,366/ha was obtained from N90S30B1.1 in the first year, and Rs 11,600/ha from N60S30B1.1 in the second year.
