Parental alienation and international child abduction: international legal cooperation for safeguard the rights of children

The paper aims to give an account of international child abduction, as a reflect of parental alienation syndrome. The description of the aspects of this legal phenomenon and their damages to the personal development of children who are victims of parental alienation were achieved through a qualitative methodology based on bibliographical research and international and national diplomas. Then, discuss the international child abduction as one of the main consequences of family disputes in global level relationships, highlighting both psychological and legal aspects related to parental alienation in the transnational sphere. After that, a comparison is made between a brief list of decisions involving Brazil, as well as the behaviour of the Brazilian Office of the General Attorney in the resolution of cases involving the international abduction of the children by one of their parents. In conclusion, the study reaffirms the importance of compliance with international treaties for the preservation of the physical and psychological well-being of the minors involved, and the search for a speed and proper safeguard of the affectivity in the family core, especially regarding the well-being of children.
