What Is Allergic Rhinitis?

Rhinitis means inflammation of the nasal passages. Allergic rhinitis is caused by a nasal reaction to an allergen, a substance that can cause an allergic reaction. Common allergens include pollen, trees, weeds, dust, mold, and animal dander. Allergic rhinitis can be considered seasonal, only occurring during a particular time of year, or perennial, when symptoms are experienced all year. You may experience nasal itching, sneezing, congestion, runny nose, and postnasal drip. If you have a fever, body aches, or a sore throat, this may mean you may have a cold.
