Flamenco, prodigy girls and music films during the Franco regime

Flamenco is one of the musical styles that acquired more visibility in cinema during the Franco's regime (1939-1975). In the same way that genre reached a good social status, movies rebounded this value throughout show musical numbers featured by great artists of the time. However, the 1950's and 1960's could be understood as a significant time because, in parallel with the arrival of new sounds from openness, flamenco was still present in an important way in some films, especially in the commercial movies closest to the Regime. Attending to this context, in this paper we offer an approach to the place that flamenco occupied in the Spanish cinema of the 60's, specifically with a comparative study of two films starring by musical child prodigy as Marisol and Rocio Durcal. In order to do this, we will analyze two films of the same period and directed by the same filmmaker, Ha llegado un angel (1961, Luis Lucia) and Rocio de la Mancha (1963), with the intention of reviewing the way that flamenco is employed by two child artists representing different stereotypes.
